Yanzhi Intelligent Car Annual Meeting concluded successfully, and Boonray Technology shared the results of the implementation of autonomous driving in new energy mining areas

2022-08-17

On August 10, 2022, Boonray Technology was invited to participate in the Yanzhi Smart Car Annual Conference, hosted by Yanzhi Automotive Technology. The conference brought together numerous professionals in the field of intelligent driving to share practical experiences and achievements. 2022, the beginning of the 14th Five-Year Plan, also marks a critical window for my country's automotive industry to achieve transformation and upgrades, and become an automotive powerhouse. The second half of the "New Four Modernizations" wave of automobiles has begun. Since 2018, when Boonray Technology helped Luoyang Molybdenum Co., Ltd. build the world's first all-electric unmanned mining truck fleet, the company has been committed to realizing the intelligent, unmanned, and green mining area 2.0 era by integrating intelligent, connected, and electric mining truck technologies.

At the smart car sharing session on the opening day, Zhao Xinhuan, Director of Autonomous Driving Product Solutions at Boonray Technology, gave a presentation titled "The Popularization of Unmanned Driving and New Energy Mining Vehicles Accelerates the Process of Intelligent Electrification in Open-Pit Mines." He introduced Boonray Technology's experience and achievements in the commercialization of pure electric unmanned mining vehicles from the perspectives of unmanned driving technology and new energy technology.

Boray's core technology promotes intelligent mining construction

Boonray's autonomous algorithm platform leverages multi-source fusion perception, fusion positioning, and 3D high-definition modeling technology to empower mining vehicles with highly accurate perception, high-precision positioning, and highly reliable decision-making capabilities. Mining vehicles equipped with this system can achieve autonomous driving, obstacle avoidance, optimal route planning, automatic loading and unloading, precise parking in loading spaces with coordinated electric shovels, and collision avoidance without human intervention.

In addition to the core algorithm team essential for autonomous driving companies, Boonray also established its own vehicle-by-wire control team to independently develop hardware such as the VCU and BCM. This enables flexible and efficient collaboration with OEMs. By employing functional safety measures and control strategies such as redundant controllers, redundant CAN buses, redundant steering, redundant braking, redundant throttles, and automatic drainage, Boonray ensures sufficient redundancy and diversity in autonomous vehicles, achieving functional safety for autonomous mining trucks that balances safety technology with cost control. Based on this technology, autonomous mining trucks achieve fault-tolerant operation similar to aviation safety. Even if a product malfunctions, it can enter a controlled safe operating mode, achieving zero driver dependence and continuing operation even after a fault is detected. This makes the ideal of autonomous mining trucks without a safety officer or a cab a reality, ensuring safety without a driver, and realizing true autonomous driving in mining areas.

Green electricity and transportation industry collaboration to achieve green transformation of mines

As the one with the highest proportion of clean energy among my country's five major energy groups, State Power Investment Corporation is also a strategic investor of Boonray Technology. While providing financial support, it can also provide Boonray Technology's mining operations with green electricity such as wind and solar energy, helping mines achieve zero carbon emissions.

The autonomous pure electric mining truck jointly developed by the two parties is equipped with a high-performance power battery, dual motors, a 4AMT transmission, and a Boray autonomous driving kit. It supports unmanned mining transportation with a maximum climbing gradient of 40% and a full-load speed of up to 25km/h, fully adapting to complex road conditions. It also introduces electric brake energy recovery technology, which can recover downhill braking energy back to the battery, partially recycling the electricity. Compared with fuel mining trucks, it can save up to 80% energy when driving downhill and 40% energy when driving uphill. This reduces operating costs for owners while improving energy efficiency and accelerating the transition to electrification. Electric vehicles are more suitable for autonomous driving systems, and with the same production efficiency, they are more environmentally friendly and carbon-neutral. They are the inevitable choice for achieving green transformation in mines under the dual-carbon era.
