On November 3rd, the finals and awards ceremony of the 2022 Shanghai First High-Value Patent Operation Competition (hereinafter referred to as "Shanghai High-Value Patent Operation Competition") were held at the Shanghai Technology Exchange. The competition awarded several major awards, including the Patent Operation Potential Value Award, the Patent Operation Growth Value Award, the Patent Operation Investment Value Award, and the Patent Operation Organization Contribution Award. Yang Hui, Deputy Director of the Shanghai Intellectual Property Office, and Lu Min, Deputy Director of the Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Commission, attended the awards ceremony.

The Shanghai Intellectual Property Competition is hosted by the Shanghai Municipal Intellectual Property Office and the Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Commission, and co-organized by the Shanghai Technology Exchange, the Shanghai University Science and Technology Development Center, and the Shanghai Intellectual Property Service Center. Since its launch in May, the competition has attracted 268 high-quality patent projects, covering a wide range of fields such as biomedicine, artificial intelligence, high-end equipment manufacturing, new materials, energy conservation and environmental protection, and next-generation information technology. The entire competition lasted 161 days, and after fierce competition in both the university and enterprise groups, 20 patent projects ultimately emerged as winners, advancing to today's finals. The competition also produced a number of high-value patent projects with high levels of innovation, excellent application benefits, and strong demonstration effects, fully demonstrating the quality-oriented and innovative development of Shanghai's intellectual property industry.
In the finals, the top 20 project teams decided the final awards through on-site defense and evaluation by the expert team. Three patents from the Shanghai Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Shanghai Institute of Ceramics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Shanghai Center for Disease Control and Prevention won the "Patent Operation Potential Value Award"; three patents from Tongji University, East China University of Science and Technology, Shanghai Yineng Gas Technology Co., Ltd., China Petrochemical Corporation, and Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine won the "Patent Operation Growth Value Award"; five patents from Shanghai Aowei Technology Development Co., Ltd., Keji Biopharmaceuticals (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., Kaixing Life Science (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., Shanghai Tolo Port Biotechnology Co., Ltd., Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co., Ltd., and Shanghai Boray Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd. won the "Patent Operation Investment Value Award." In addition, 12 institutions that provided operational services for the competition's patent projects also won the "Patent Operation Institution Contribution Award." (Detailed list attached)

Lu Min, Deputy Director of the Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Commission, and Yang Hui, Deputy Director of the Shanghai Municipal Intellectual Property Office, respectively delivered concluding remarks for the competition. Lu Min stated that high-value patents are of great significance, crucial for scientific and technological innovation, and a guarantee for the high-quality commercialization of scientific and technological achievements. The Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Commission, in implementing relevant central government requirements, is actively exploring effective approaches for market-based evaluation of scientific and technological achievements in promoting the commercialization of scientific and technological achievements in the city, guiding universities and research institutes to generate high-value patents and fostering an environment conducive to the commercialization of high-value patents.

Yang Hui stated that the Shanghai Intellectual Property Competition was the first intellectual property operation competition held in Shanghai. The competition exhibited five distinct characteristics: a long time span, a strong mobilization force, substantial technical content, high-level judging, and a wide-ranging impact. The Shanghai Intellectual Property Office will coordinate the implementation of the Outline for Building a Strong Intellectual Property City and the 14th Five-Year Plan, fully supporting the high-quality economic and social development of Shanghai through high-quality intellectual property development. The next step will be to focus on promoting high-quality intellectual property creation, strengthening the efficient use of intellectual property, and establishing the Shanghai Intellectual Property Competition as a branded event.

Under the guidance of the Shanghai Intellectual Property Office and the Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Commission, this competition, through the extensive mobilization of the organizing committee and the gathering of multi-sectoral support, reached over 300 entities, including district intellectual property offices, science and technology innovation clusters, high-tech zone management committees, universities, research institutes, enterprises, and technology transfer service agencies. During the competition, over ten mainstream media outlets, including Xinhua News Agency, People's Daily Online, Wenhui Daily, Yicai Global, Shangguan News, and The Paper, provided follow-up coverage, accumulating 500,000 views and attracting widespread attention nationwide. The competition also served as a bridge and link for showcasing and collaborating on new technologies and models, injecting fresh momentum into improving the quality and efficiency of the industry and serving as a vivid example of how high-value patents can contribute to innovation-driven development.
