Boonray Technology co-founded the Low-Speed Unmanned Driving Industry Alliance to accelerate the unmanned reform of mining areas

2021-09-08

On September 8, the "Low-Speed Unmanned Driving Industry Alliance" was officially established in Pingshan, Shenzhen. It was initiated by New Strategy Low-Speed Unmanned Driving All Media, New Strategy Low-Speed Unmanned Driving Industry Research Institute and more than 160 mainstream companies in the industry chain, including Neolithic, Horizon Robotics, SenseTime, and Boonray Technology. At the same time, the first Low-Speed Unmanned Vehicle Industry Technology Summit was held. With the theme of "Scenario Focus • Low-Speed Intelligent Driving", the summit comprehensively interpreted the successful application of current unmanned driving technology in scenarios such as mines, ports, logistics distribution, and industrial parks. As one of the co-sponsors, Boonray Technology conducted in-depth discussions with leading companies in the industry on the innovative development of low-speed unmanned driving core technologies and industries, and jointly promoted the development and implementation of low-speed unmanned vehicle industry scenarios.

The alliance will rely on China's low-speed unmanned driving network and the new strategic low-speed unmanned driving full-media resources, and mobilize the forces of production, education, research, capital, application, and government. By adopting a joint development form, it will play an exemplary leading role, enhance the brand effect of low-speed unmanned vehicles, promote the implementation of industry products in various semi-closed scenarios, and create the country's first comprehensive service platform for low-speed unmanned driving solutions.

News Broadcast reports on the solution jointly developed by Huawei and Boonray Technology

Based on this solution, the two parties jointly developed the "5G Smart Mine" project at Jiugang Xigou Mine, achieving China's first nighttime operation with autonomous mining trucks, eliminating the need for safety officers. In the smart mining sector, this project represents China's first integrated operation of "truck, shovel, drill, and hammer." For this project, Boonray Technology retrofitted China's first 5G-based remote-controlled electric shovel. Together, they helped transform Jiugang Xigou Mine in Gansu Province into China's first integrated "5G+ Smart Mine" featuring trucks, shovels, and drills, enabling remote control of electric shovels and unmanned mining trucks. The project earned the company the Gansu Province Outstanding Contribution Award for Promoting High-Quality Development.

Boonray Technology's products and solutions primarily target green and intelligent full-scale open-pit mines. Firstly, the company pioneered the market with several all-electric autonomous mining trucks, combining unmanned driving technology with new energy sources to bring green and intelligent technologies to mining scenarios. Secondly, in terms of autonomous driving capabilities, Boonray Technology focuses on adapting to actual mining scenarios. For example, it optimizes perception algorithms for the complex and changing roads, dusty conditions, rainy and snowy conditions, and other harsh environments in open-pit mines that are not conducive to autonomous driving. Furthermore, products and solutions such as remote control and intelligent shoveling and dispatching platforms based on 5G technology can help mines achieve complete unmanned operation.

At the mining site level, mining and transportation operations in open-pit mines face persistent challenges due to the harsh working environment, resulting in high workforce turnover, an aging population, low employment willingness, a high incidence of occupational diseases, and recruitment difficulties. Furthermore, labor and energy costs for mining and transportation operations remain high. To address these pain points, Boonray Technology's all-electric autonomous mining trucks, 5G-based remote control intelligent cockpits, and intelligent shoveling and dispatching collaborative platforms can help mine operators reduce costs and mitigate the risk of safety incidents.
