In the recently concluded 2017 Venture50 Emerging Companies list, Shanghai Boray Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Vπ, emerged from a vast field of applicants as "China's Most Valuable Company for Investment." This signifies that the capital market is beginning to pay attention to the drone application sector, which not only presents significant unmet needs in China but also aligns with the development trend of the AI era.

Teaching You the Proper Way to Use Drones: Commercial Applications

Drones are often considered solely for recreational photography, but have you ever considered that this is a misuse of drones?

Thankfully, Boray has taken a step forward, shifting drone use from consumer-oriented entertainment to commercial applications.

According to Boonray CEO and co-founder Hu Xinyi, Boonray's drones can provide enterprise users with various engineering solutions, particularly in the construction, planning, and maintenance of infrastructure like bridges and roads. Using drones for aerial inspections and data collection can more conveniently help businesses complete their tasks.

Boonray drones can also serve government users. Currently, cities across China are actively developing smart cities, and the emergence of drones can help governments deploy information-based management. In the future, autonomous drone flight will enable surveying, planning, and governance within relevant areas. Drones can also be used for security patrols. Their most significant capability is their ability to soar, providing a clear view of everything on the ground.

From the above introduction, it's clear that the general trend in drone development is moving from personal entertainment to commercial applications. Unfortunately, not many domestic companies are currently adopting drones. Hu Xinyi believes this requires a period of education.

Smart companies understand the cost savings of drones.

Currently, there are numerous domestic companies producing and manufacturing drones, but few are developing and applying them. This makes it difficult for companies to get started with drones. Firstly, they lack understanding and therefore act sloppily, and secondly, they don't know how to analyze the data collected by drones.

Bonnray is currently working to promote the commercial use of drones. Hu Xinyi explained that Bonnray is a smart technology company because they are committed to making drones more intelligent and less dependent on human operators. Bonnray's product suite typically includes a drone and a system. After a single initial commissioning phase, the drone can autonomously fly according to plan. The collected data is then uploaded to Bonnray's cloud database, analyzed, and then automatically returned to the company.

Regarding the labor cost comparison between drones and other projects, Hu Xinyi cited an example. He explained that for typical photovoltaic power station surveys, manual labor requires two employees to climb up and down to perform measurements, taking at least two days. However, with a drone, a single employee can simply launch the drone in 20 minutes, and all subsequent work is handled intelligently by the drone.

Hu Xinyi pointed out that many infrastructure projects have enormous labor costs. For example, the annual inspection costs for the Donghai Bridge exceed one million yuan. Using Boonray's intelligent drones could reduce costs by at least 50%. Furthermore, after a single commissioning and installation, Boonray's drones typically last 10 to 20 years.

Located in Zhangjiang, Boonray is rapidly developing, and its cultural environment supports high-tech companies.

Boonray was founded at the end of 2015 and is currently housed in the Vπ Zhangjiang Entrepreneurship Workshop @Naxian800. Despite being less than two years old, it has seen rapid growth, serving dozens of companies, including government agencies and state-owned enterprises. Its product model is evolving from customization to modularization, significantly increasing production.

Hu Xinyi stated that the company's development is inseparable from a good platform, and choosing Zhangjiang as the location was a perfect decision. Known as China's Silicon Valley, the area boasts first-rate policies, a vibrant talent pool, and, more importantly, a superb cultural environment. Zhangjiang holds a strong appeal for high-tech companies, particularly the already established agglomeration effect, which allows them to share in the industry's dividends.

It is understood that Boonray secured angel investment last year and, having recently been recognized as a Top 50 Emerging Product, is continuing to pursue financing projects.

Regarding Boonray's future development, Hu Xinyi revealed that the company may be expanding internationally. Boonray's team is comprised of a diverse international team of talented individuals, and they plan to promote Chinese drone commercial applications internationally. Boonray currently counts Singaporean companies among its clients, and Japanese companies have also visited and negotiated with the company.
