Breaking the last mile of unmanned mining: Boonray Technology Changsha Forum unveils Chinas full-stack open-pit mining technology solution

2025-06-27

On April 10th, the Fourth Smart Mines and Intelligent Equipment Summit Forum grandly opened in Changsha to promote the innovative development of new industries, new models, and new drivers, create a "new engine" for mining development, and build a digital mining ecosystem. Hosted by the Hunan Mining Association, the conference delved into technologies across various segments of smart mining and intelligent equipment, exchanged case studies, and showcased new equipment and achievements. Boonray Technology made a splash with its "full-stack unmanned solution." Through a showcase of technological achievements, scenario-based case studies, and industry trend analysis, it presented attendees with a Chinese approach to the intelligent transformation of mining. During the conference, the Boonray team engaged in intensive exchanges with mining company representatives and industry experts from across the country. The onsite technology demonstration area was packed, becoming the most active technology focus of the summit.

Technical strength attracts mining companies and provides customized solutions and precise services

Boonray Technology, with its mission of "intelligent technology creates productivity," has been deeply engaged in mining applications for nearly a decade. Leveraging independently developed core technologies such as AI algorithms, wire-controlled chassis, and cloud-based scheduling, it has developed unmanned solutions covering the entire "loading, hauling, and unloading" process. Its star product, the Boonray eBull, an unmanned, integrated charging and battery-swappable mining truck, leverages high-precision sensing, multiple redundant safety systems, and a 6-minute battery swap capability. Combined with 5G zero-carbon smart mining solutions, it further streamlines the entire "perception-decision-execution" chain in mining areas, enabling real-time connectivity between truck, shovel, and road via a V2X vehicle-to-road collaborative system. The eBull has achieved standardized delivery in over 20 large-scale mining projects across China, cumulatively traveling over 20 million kilometers safely and transporting over 300 million tons of earth and rock, setting a benchmark for routine "true unmanned" operations in China.

The effectiveness of the case impressed customers and the energy efficiency breakthroughs in multiple scenarios resonated with them

Chen Xingbing, Vice President of Marketing at Boonray Technology, was invited to the conference to share his insights on the intelligent development of open-pit mines. He showcased the implementation results of several benchmark projects, combining unmanned mining truck operations in open-pit mines with comprehensive zero-carbon smart mine solutions. For example, Jiugang's Xigou Mine, at an altitude of 3,400 meters, achieved a 60-80% reduction in manpower per shift and increased effective operating time to 14 hours through a vehicle-shovel collaborative system. The Baosteel Baiyun Iron Ore project, leveraging the deep integration of intelligent algorithms and localized decision-making systems, analyzes mine dynamic data in real time, autonomously generates the optimal global operation path, and precisely drives the entire unmanned closed-loop process of loading, transporting, and unloading. Furthermore, a fleet of 30 Boonray electric mining trucks deployed at the Datang East Second Mine in Inner Mongolia achieved China's first "unmanned driving + unmanned battery swapping" operation scenario with zero human intervention throughout the entire process. The Xinjiang South Open-pit Coal Mine project even set a record for "6-minute ultra-fast battery swapping with zero-loss endurance," demonstrating the technical stability under extreme temperature fluctuations. Currently, Boonray Technology's AI algorithm has been adapted to six major types of minerals, including building materials, metals, and coal. Through dynamic path planning and energy consumption optimization, it has significantly reduced ton-kilometer transportation costs, providing the industry with a rapidly replicable intelligent upgrade path.

Challenges and opportunities coexist: jointly exploring new paths for zero-carbon transformation

At the summit's roundtable forum, Boonray Technology's Vice President of Marketing, Chen Xingbing, engaged in an in-depth discussion with representatives from Xinjiang Daming Mining Group, Hunan Chuangyuan High-Tech Machinery, Huamou Consulting, Shandong Inspur Intelligent, and Dandong Dongfang Measurement & Control on the "Path to Digital Transformation in Smart Mines." The intelligent transformation of open-pit mines faces multiple challenges, including adaptability to extreme environments, transitioning to human-machine collaboration, and balancing cost and efficiency. In his speech, Boonray Technology's Vice President of Marketing, Chen Xingbing, noted that China's autonomous driving and new energy technologies have achieved international leadership, with breakthroughs particularly significant in complex scenarios. For example, Boonray's unmanned mining trucks have successfully operated in extremely cold and dusty environments, such as the Xinjiang South Open-Pit Mine and the Jiugang Xigou Mine. Through proprietary anti-interference algorithms and low-temperature-resistant battery technology, each vehicle saves over one million yuan in annual fuel costs and improves overall efficiency by 30%. He emphasized the need for deep integration of technology with the industrial chain. Boonray's collaborations with partners such as Huadian Digital Intelligence and Tongli Heavy Industry are driving technology from single-point breakthroughs to full-chain coverage.

Industry chain collaboration was the focus of this discussion. Panelists unanimously agreed that the development of smart mines requires integrating resources from multiple parties, including OEMs, energy companies, and technology firms, breaking down data silos. The transformation to smart mines must be gradual, starting with high-value, low-risk scenarios, such as piloting unmanned transportation, and gradually expanding investment through data validation. Simultaneously, ecosystem collaboration and policy leverage are essential. Only through cross-industry technology sharing and resource integration can the transition from "laboratory" to "scaled" be achieved. Chen Xingbing concluded, "The value of smart mines lies not only in replacing human labor but also in enabling miners to move from dangerous operations to intelligent scheduling, transforming mines from labor-intensive industries into icons of high-tech industries." This discussion charted the course for the future of the industry: anchored by technological innovation and driven by shared ecosystem development, this will propel mining towards a new era of safety, efficiency, and zero carbon.

Authoritative Release | 2025 (4th) Smart Mining and Smart Equipment Summit Forum Held in Changsha

At this summit, Boonray Technology not only demonstrated its technological prowess but also, through close dialogue with mining companies, accurately identified the industry's pain points. Unmanned mining isn't a future reality; it's a present one. Driven by both policy and demand, this Changsha summit is accelerating the large-scale implementation of smart mines.
